Get In!

Updated: Oct 6

Empowering People Through Music and Employment Skills

Funded by the European Social Fund and delivered in partnership with local agencies, Inter-Action MK’s Get In! programme ran for three years, offering long-term unemployed individuals with poor mental health the chance to develop valuable soft employment skills. The goal was to support participants on their path to meaningful employment or volunteering opportunities.

What made Get In! unique was its use of music as a unifying force. Hosted in a professional music centre and recording studio in partnership with Unit 9, the program recruited participants who shared a passion for music. In exchange for their time, they received hands-on training in studio recording and music production, while also focusing on building confidence and employability.

Our Impact

The impact of Get In! has been truly remarkable. Many participants transitioned into sustained employment, entered higher education or training programmes, and experienced personal growth beyond the workplace. Participants reported positive changes such as finding stable housing, improving family relationships, and joining social clubs and societies.

The programme's success was driven by the supportive environment it fostered. Despite the varied backgrounds of the participants—including young adult carers, middle-aged individuals returning to the workforce after extended breaks, those with high levels of anxiety, those with complex personal histories, and graduates facing physical challenges—everyone encouraged and uplifted one another.

Through the transformative power of music and community, Get In! helped participants overcome barriers, opening doors to brighter futures.
