In partnership(s) with our hosts the City Discovery Centre at Bradwell Abbey, we created two new active public garden spaces: a community garden and a sensory garden. Â
Community Garden
The community garden is a welcoming space for everyone to come together, garden, enjoy a cuppa, learn to grow produce, and take home fresh vegetables in exchange for helping with tasks listed on the slate. During COVID-19, this garden became a vital resource, providing a safe haven for many groups, individuals, and volunteers. Produce grown in the garden has been donated to local Community Fridges, and plant sales have generated funds to reinvest in the garden.
Sensory Garden
The sensory garden was transformed from an overgrown area into a serene space designed for relaxation and reflection. It's the perfect setting for community workshops, quiet moments, and outdoor activities.
Both gardens were initially created by volunteers from local companies and organisations, including Sainsbury’s, John Lewis, Network Rail, Santander, and others. Today, they continue to thrive, maintained by dedicated volunteers from the community, and they remain valuable spaces for engagement, relaxation, and learning.
